Madison's Summer Hairdo

This week Madison got her Summer Hairdo. She seemed quite embarrassed about it all the first day, but with the 80 degree temps we've been having she seems to have adjusted quickly and is happy to have all that hot fur gone.
I think she looks like she's lost 10 pounds - she just looks so tiny without all the hair. I was having a bit of trouble getting her to pose, you see she felt she needed a treat and was looking at me like - no I said I needed a treat first, not after this stupid photo session. Well she had to wait and she survived.
In other news, pop over to Green Fairy Quilts Blog, she is doing an awesome give away - 12 of her patterns and she's got great patterns. So don't miss out on a chance to win!!
Have a great long weekend, be safe and stay cool. I will be hot and dusty cleaning the house, and all the dust remnants from all of our wind storms and getting ready to go to the Lake on Thursday to fish with grandson Ben (and his parents too).

Summer - Finally!!

Finally the warm weather and sunshine have arrived and I am doing the dance of joy. It's in the 80's today and supposed to stay that way through this next week. I love summer time and I love sunshine. I also love air conditioning too when it gets over 100 degrees as it will in July and August. But for now it's glorious weather and time to get the deck ready. Today I planted flowers in our buckets and put out the deck frogs.

Our flower garden with Roses and the Japanese Maple and Hydrangea's is looking so good this year. But with all the rain, it sure needs a good weeding - some other day of course.

I planted Vinca's and Moneywort and Snowballs in my buckets, later this summer I'll take a picture. They look pretty puny now, but they'll be full and lush in no time.
This is where our table and chairs go - that's on the to do list for tomorrow. And of course frogs frolicking on the deck. I love frogs!!

A couple of hanging baskets with purple and white fan flowers in them and also a couple of buckets with basil and one with cilantro. Did you know if you put a basil plant by your front door it will help keep the flies out. I never have flies in the house, and I love to use fresh basil in cooking.
We put a little bench in front of the screen door for the boys, so here is Chance Man looking out at me - inspecting my work as I plant.

I couldn't resist a couple of pictures of Maddie. Here she is all fluffy and long haired. She's getting a summer cut this week and just in time, she's so hot with all that fur.

Don't know what she spotted in the yard, but it had her transfixed and she wouldn't look at me to pose. But it turned out so cute anyhow I had to add it in.

Well that's what we've been up to this weekend. Next weekend it's time to clean the house, top to bottom. We've had so much wind and I swear, air tight windows or not, the dust looks like it's a foot deep in here - okay I exaggerate, but ugh, it's time to clean. My best friend is coming in just a couple of weeks so I've got a lot of work still to do, including baking zucchini bread, it's her favorite and so she must have it.

Happy Weekend Everyone!!

Happy Mothers Day

To all you Mom's out there, Happy Mothers Day. While I'm not a Mom, my four legged children gave me a cute card and a Marley and Me DVD, which I loved. I am a Step Mom, but really I never was a "Mom" type of person to my Step Daughter S, she had her Mom and I really only wanted to be her friend, which I think we accomplished. She has a son and a terrific husband and I feel like I'm a part of their family, not just because I'm married to her Dad. She is a fabulous mother I must say. So natural from the minute the little man entered all our lives. I marvel at how great she is with him and I love the way he looks at his Mommy with such adoration. She is just the best Mommy out there in my humble opinion and our grandson is one adorable, well mannered, respectful, but normal rough and tumble 6 year old. So S, my hat is off to you, you are a fabulous mother, person, friend and while I know you work hard, you make it look so effortless.

And while I'm mentioning Mothers Day, I can't let the day go by without remembering my Grandmother, Metha. What a wonderful woman. I was so blessed to be raised in her and Grandpa's home till I was 6, then started 10 years of hell with my mother and step father, but at 16 I was back in my Grandma's home and finally knew love and safety and compassion again. She helped me to be the person I am today by simply loving me and quietly being there and understanding without words having to be exchanged. Had it not been for her, I surely would not be in a loving marriage and happy in life. I sure do miss her, wish I could have one more day with her, I've grown even more as a person since she left this world and I'd like to think she'd be more proud of me today than when she passed. Happy Mothers Day Grandma!!

Has anyone been successful in training their dog to stay out of the cat food??

My husband is/was just sure our dog could learn to leave it alone. Well poor Maddie, it calls to her like chocolate chip cookies call to me and she just can't resist. She knows she shouldn't and she really looks sorry after wards (esp. if caught in the act), but she just can't pass it up. So finally he gave in and put the cat food up on the dryer so she can't get to it, but he's grumbling now that she is smart enough to learn to not eat it blah, blah, blah. I think being smart has nothing to do with it and dogs are just naturally attracted to it. So anyone have any ideas for us or experiences to share on this topic. I'd sure appreciate any and all ideas or comments.

How much help is to much help?

Ever drop something, have it roll under something and you need to retrieve it. So you go get the flash light and the yard stick to make the job a bit easier, just a 2 second job or so you think, then the troops storm in to assist.
Talk about your major exciting events, when Dad gets out the yard stick and flashlight, it's gonna be something good - they just know it. I mean really, could Dad do this or any other job with out their assistance and inspection to assure the job is well done?

Dad may grumble that we are in his way, but hey, he depends on us to help him, he'd be lost without us, he wouldn't know what to do and he'd surely never find anything if it weren't for us!!

Where did last week go?

It would appear that the week passed me by with nothing remarkable to tell anyone about. Oh my what will happen to my blog if this boring issue of mine keeps up. I did work here and there on a baby quilt for Kirk and Tiff's little one, but nothing to show yet. I also had a friend ask me if I'd like to make my burp clothes from her daughters consignment shop and so I did get busy cutting out a dozen or so burp clothes for that. Again, nothing finished or ready to show. Here it is a new week and I've no idea what, if anything, I accomplished last week. This will be a strange work week for me. I'm working in one of the tanning salons 3 out of 4 days this week, with a helper of course so I don't have to clean beds (which does my back in and makes me hobble for weeks). So tomorrow I work 12 to 5, then Wed and Thurs I work 3 to 9:30, my only normal day is Tuesday in the office 9 to 2. I'm not used to working till late in the evening so this should be interesting and it's just this week as our main gal is moving to a new apartment.
I did notice a couple of awesome give aways out there. If you have the time visit Rosebud Quilting and Cornfield Quilter. Let them know I sent you. They both are giving away some beautiful fabrics.
My Sis, who lives in the Chicago area - Minooka to be exact, will be coming here to see me the 3rd of June and I must say I'm very focused on that and excited for her visit. It's been 2 years since we've been able to get together. And to long for sure. She'll be here till the 10th, not a lot of time, but I've booked us 3 nights in Cannon Beach with a stop in Portland, OR for some power shopping. She's never been to the Oregon coast or Portland, both I am sure she will love as much as I do.
