One last post before we leave......

Hey all, one last post before we head out tomorrow. The 5th wheel is packed, I'm as ready as I can be for this surgery, and nervous, scared, excited, nervous................you get the idea. I think to undertake something like this you should be nervous, it's only natural.

The liquid diet has not killed me and I have lost 10 pounds in the last 11 days, for a total of {drum roll please} 55 pounds. I am quite amazed with myself for what I've accomplished and I actually can see a bit of a difference now. Guess my brain needed time to catch up with my body. It will be a wild roller coaster ride ahead of me for a while, but I feel prepared for what is to come and what I need to do.

I just wanted to say thank you so very much too all my blogger friends for their love and support in my endeavor to become a healthier version of me.

Thought I'd leave you all with a couple pictures of our beautiful Rhododendron. In our dry and very hot climate, it's taken it 25 years to get this big - on the west side of our state, they grow like weeds if you can imagine. This is also the state flower for Washington.

Take care, have a wonderful Memorial Day - speaking of that, if you haven't seen the movie "Taking Chance" with Kevin Bacon, I highly recommend it.  A very moving and patriotic film about a fallen Marine.  Just be sure to have a lot of kleenex.

Taking a Break

I'll be taking a break for a few weeks. Surgery is a week from tomorrow and I've got lots to do leading up to it, like finish cleaning the house, getting the 5th wheel ready to go/packed up, getting food for Cliff - after all he can't starve just cuz I'm gonna, haha. The liquid diet hasn't killed me and actually I have a good portion of my energy back and am feeling pretty good. Food and food smells don't bother me at this point and I don't have a desire to eat - just sticking to my liquid protein and shrinking my liver so it's out of the surgeon's way.

I've been working on a dog wall hanging and now I just need to make 8 dog bone blocks to go around the Dog - here's what it looks like, with more work to go:

I've lost 48 pounds so far, on the left is a before picture (I was down about 15 pounds when it was taken) and on the right is a picture taken yesterday.  I'm a little anxious and scared of surgery, worried about everything going well, normal stuff, but excited to be a better and healthier version of me!!

Chance Man wanted his picture included in the blog since I was taking a break.  He just knew everyone out there would want to see how handsome he is laying in the sunshine.

Skeezics thought he should have his picture taken too, but he was to interested in the squirrel outside to look at me and smile for his photo.

And if the boys were gonna get their picture taken; Maddie had to get in on the act too.  She wants everyone to know she'll be taking good care of her Mom after surgery and taking her Mom on walks to build her strength back up.  She'll also be taking care of her Dad while her Mom is in the hospital so he doesn't get to lonely.

I'll miss reading your blogs for a few weeks but I'll get caught up once we're back home and I'll let you all know how things are going.  Take care and I hope you all have lots of sunshine and great weather!!

Madison posts for her Mom today....

Hi Everybody, it's me, Madison, or Maddie - that's what Mom calls me.  Mom has started her two week all liquid protein diet for her surgery and the last 3 days have been hell for her.  She's had a horrible headache, no energy and just isn't much fun to play tug of war with.  She seems better today, I think she's got her energy back and she says she's gonna dust - I don't know why, the wind keeps blowing and heck it'll just get dusty again from me, my 2 cat brothers and well the wind mostly - it could never be us.

Mom asked me to post today for her so I'll start out by showing you the quilt she made for Uncle Virgil for his 55 birthday this month - oops, she told me not to mention his age, but it's done now. Here's the quilt:

I'm having trouble inserting a picture, good thing I get groomed this week and get my toenails trimmed.  Mom is working on her Doggie Wall hanging right now and she might get it done before we leave for Spokane and her surgery, but she says she can't promise anything.

So far it's been a busy Saturday for a little dog like me, Dad got up early and met some friends for breakfast, so of course that met I had to go out early to do my thing, I hate that, I'm a sleep in girl.  While they start their day with coffee and Mom with decaf, I get 3 mini-treats and I do tricks to get them too, it's a favorite time of day for me.  When Dad got home, we all went to Farmers Market - but I had to wait in the car.  They bought some basil plants and they sure smelled good to me.  Dad and I will plant them later.  Major excitement after we got home, the mailman brought a package to the door - I love the mail man, ah heck I love everybody - Mom says I'd lick anyone to death who broke in the house.  I'm not sure if that's a good thing or not, but I do love everybody.  I sure hope she makes Dad a Latte later, cuz I get a "barista treat" which is a milkbone when she turns the espresso machine on.  See I get a treat at the coffee drive-thru we go to for Latte's and so when Mom makes them at home, I get a treat too.  Yep, I'm spoiled and a princess and I like it that way.

Have a good weekend!

Peonies and some more finishes

The heat is on.  No spring to speak of and now we're in the 80's and lord it's hard to adjust to the heat without a little build up.  That said I am not complaining it's so nice to have no wind and sunshine and be outside.  Things are blooming and growing and really looking beautiful in the yard.  Our rhubarb plant is out of control this year and I wish I knew more people who'd like to have some.  I may make some sauce and freeze it.  Just this weekend the peonies opened up and man are they fragrant and beautiful. Here are a couple pictures (wish you could smell them):

I also finished the binding and sewing on all the white buttons on my Valentines wall hanging.  A bit late, but well ahead of schedule for next Valentines Day:

And I finished the button up wall hanging background.  It is pretty plain, but you use the buttons in the second picture to hang the decorative wall hanging on it - kind of like a mat for a picture only this mat goes behind the picture.  Once I get my dog wall hanging done, I'll take a picture so you can see how it all goes together.

The birthday gift quilt is coming right along and the binding is almost done.  Wish I could post a picture, but it will have to wait till it gets to its destination.

Hope your weather is beautiful like ours and you're enjoying a nice weekend.

Updates, Finishes and it's finally Spring around here

I've been really bad about posting lately.  No excuses, just not much to say I guess.  I've been busy working on continuing to lose weight for my surgery and I'm thrilled to say I've lost 41 pounds.  Next week I will see the Nutritionist and the ARNP and do all my pre-op stuff.  I will then begin my 2 week of all liquid protein diet up till surgery.  I'm not looking forward to it, but losing weight before this surgery helps to shrink the liver and get it out of the way, very important and I'm all for that to make it easier on the surgeon.  My surgery is June 2nd and I'll be out of touch from the end of May till late June, only because we will be in the Spokane area till it's time for my post-op appt and I won't have a computer or internet in the 5th wheel.  Here is a current "before" picture of Madison and myself - squinting into the beautiful sunshine.  Ah yes, sunshine, spring is finally here, the weather is warm and it's time to wear shorts and be outside.

I've finished a couple of things that have been waiting on me to quilt and bind, first up is my Chicken wall hanging.  I plan to put it in the kitchen.  I used 30's fabric for it and I just love how it turned out.

Next is a crib quilt I made for our nephew and his wife - they're expecting a baby girl in August, she'll join her brother Ian and it's so exciting.  I had this panel and so I cut it up, put some purple fabric in to break it up and then some neon green for the border, I think it turned out pretty cute and the expecting Grandparents, D&M loved it.

I'm working on my very late or you could say very early Valentines month wall hanging.  I've quilted it and am about finished with the binding and then will add the buttons.  Once that is done I'll post it as well.  I'm also making an adorable Dog wall hanging, but it's way to soon to show it, I had better get busy.  Today I'll quilt a b-day surprise for a very special guy whose been a big brother to me for over 30 years - he is a very special, wonderful person to say the least.  I think he'll really like it, but I won't show it till it's reached him because it is a surprise and I think he looks at my blog from time to time.

Hope everyone is well and enjoying beautiful weather like we are.

Mothers Day

Hope all you Mom's out there have a very Happy Mothers Day.

Thursday, May 6, 2010

Hi Ho, Chance Man here.  Mom has been busy and rather quiet of late, so I decided to do a post for her.  I'm her sewing room burglar helper.  Okay, burglar is what she calls me, you see she's been busy sewing a bunch of stuff and she'll leave scraps of material laying around or fat quarters, or spools of thread and so I like to surprise her with a trail of things from her sewing room, through the living room, kitchen, family room and into the bedroom.  It's like I'm giving her gifts, if only she'd see it that way.  I may ransack her sewing room, but I give it all back and hey, it's all stuff she likes, what a good son I am, huh!!  Anyhow, Mom's been busy exercising and working on losing a few more pounds before her surgery and such, so she really hasn't had much to say.  Since I'm never at a loss for words, I decided to help her out today.  Well, I gotta take my late afternoon nap now, catch some late afternoon sun while I sleep and rest up so I can burgle her sewing room tonight, again, as always.
