July Fishing Trip on the Methow River

We had an awesome trip fishing the Methow River.  Here I am with a beautiful Cutthroat Trout.  Since we fly fish, we typically are in catch and release rivers, so we put them back to catch another day.
Here is CR with a beautiful catch
Here is CR again with another catch and the other guy is Rod, our guide, boat rower, fly tying guru, etc.....
Here I am with a gorgeous Cutthroat - we were in this one area, I caught this guy and put my line back in the water and caught another almost instantly.  What a good time that was!
And here is the second one I caught.
The first day we caught a lot of White Fish.  I managed to catch the biggest Whitey of the day and this is him.
CR with another of his catches.
Had to include this picture.  CR caught a small - like 3 inch trout, got the hook out of his mouth and then he wiggled and got loose in the boat - so here are CR and Rod looking for the little sardine so they can get him back in the water.  Either that or the boat is gonna stink from dead fish.  They found him and he was fine!!
Well hope you enjoyed the pictures.  It was hot as could be up there, luckily on the second day the clouds rolled in so the sun wasn't beating down on us as much.  We had a great time and plan to go back in August for more of the same.  Then in September, we plan to fish for steelhead.  Since we've never fished steelhead, it should be a new, exciting and fun experience.

Folded Star

I have a huge to do list for my sewing room, but recently I took a time out to try the Folded Star tutorial that Jennifer at Bronze Wombat did.  You can find the tutorial here.  I've wanted to try this for quite some time and she assured me it was easy and I could master it.  Not only was it easy, but it was a delight to do.  Okay I did make a couple mistakes when I didn't read ahead a bit, but over all for the first try, I really like it and will be making more.  I think it would make a cute gift and I'd like to have a couple - mistake free for myself and be brave and make them circular.  So thank you Jennifer for posting this tutorial and if you haven't give it a try I recommend visiting her blog and doing one, you will enjoy the process.

A Progress Update

I am gaining more health and more life with each passing day thanks to my exercise and weight loss and the gift of weight loss surgery.  I am now down 74 pounds - 21 pounds since surgery 5 weeks ago this past Wednesday.  I have 71 pounds to go, so I've surpassed my mid-point.  I'm now 5 sizes down in clothing and can shop at regular stores, which is very liberating.  You can check out my starting and before surgery pictures here.  And here is a brand new picture taken today by my wonderful and encouraging and supportive hubby CR.

For a long time it was hard for me to really see a difference - evidently my mind is adjusting now because I can see a difference and it's pretty exciting.  I'm off pureeing foods and now into the soft foods stage, which means anything but steak, seeds, nuts, and crunchy stuff.  It's kind of fun to chew again.  We even went out to lunch today - CR had a taco salad and I had a cup of chili.  It took me as long to eat that cup of chili as CR to eat a huge taco salad and I didn't even finish the chili.  I used to be such a fast eater and now I eat very slowly and thoughtfully - which has blown my hubby away, he's no longer the slow eater in the house.  I feel so good, I have so much energy and I'm so grateful to be off all medications and be able to say that I am healthy.  I've seen a few friends this week who haven't seen me since before surgery and really blew them away with the changes.  I'm so blessed to have so many good friends who are so encouraging of my efforts.

Well that's my update for now.  It's hot here - 102 today, thank goodness for air conditioning.

A Finish

Well I finally finished my doggie wall hanging. I didn’t square it up very well so the left side is a tad longer. You could say I wasn’t as focused as I should have been and probably should have waited, as yesterday I didn’t feel so well. Thankfully all is better today. The first picture is of the button up quilt which is a background and then the doggie quilt is attached to it and hangs in front. Cute concept, but the doggie would be cute on its own as well.

I’m on to other things now, I have a quilt for our bed that I really need to get back to, a birthday present I must make starting tomorrow (fabric is picked out and ready to go), a baby quilt for a little niece coming our way in August and several other projects I’m dying to get to as well. How many years will all this take I wonder, haha.

On the weight loss front, I’ve dropped a couple more pounds since surgery and this Wednesday will be 5 weeks post-op. I start eating soft foods on Wednesday – what does that mean, cooked foods basically or soft fruits. Nothing crunchy, no seeds or nuts, no steak (hard to chew and digest just yet). It will be odd to finally chew food again as I’ve been on liquids, then pureed foods since surgery – the kind of food that just sort of slides down and you eat on a schedule to remind yourself you must. Still no hunger sensation, so that is nice

Have a great evening.
