A Fun Evening

I mentioned in my last post that we were having company for dinner and I planned to take pictures.  Well, guess who didn't take one picture.  Oh well I have to say it was a wonderful evening.  Our friends arrived around 5:30 and I started to put the pasta together as well as the salad and while I did that we all enjoyed a nice glass of wine.  In fact we enjoyed several glasses of wine and emptied a few bottles.  This is the only picture from last night - the empty bottles, haha.

Yep, we killed 4 extremely good bottles of wine.  We ate, drank, and talked till almost midnight.  It was a lot of fun and I can't wait to do it again.

Today is beautiful, the sun is out, it's not to cold and I've been enjoying my coffee.  Guess it's time to get going and get some brunch made for CR.

Dinner for Four

Tonight we are having friends over for dinner.  What's the big deal you ask - well since my cancer was discovered almost 2 years ago I just haven't been up to doing anything like this either from not feeling well or from the overwhelming fatigue I had.  Well I'm coming out of my funk and I'm ready to have some fun.  So tonight Cathy and Bob will be coming over for Pasta with pancetta and leeks, a harvest salad that has figs, pears, pepita's and boursin cheese with a maple vinaigrette and last but not least drunken cherry shortbread cookies.  The cherries are "drunk" because I soaked/plumped them in amaretto first.

I hope to take a picture or two to let you know how the evening and dinner went.

In the meantime - a little something I whipped up today.  Another Ozark Star table topper.  I just am crazy for this pattern.  This one is a gift, but I have a second cut out for me I love the fabric so much.

More tomorrow!

Ice Encrusted Car

I worked today from 9 to 2 and I ran my hiney off.  I had 20 customers in a 4 hour period, did all the room deep cleaning, mopped the floors as well as cleaning up after tanners, laundry, dusting, and a couple of airbrush tans too.  I tell you I was sweating like a pig in 100 degree weather - I was just a drippy mess.  Meanwhile it was about 30 degrees outside and raining ice, so I had an iced over car to when I left to go home.  I wasn't thrilled about scrapping ice off the windows, however it was cold out, it cooled me down and it felt GOOD!!

When I got home, CR was installing our shiny, brand new kitchen faucet:

It's a brushed silver and I think it's gorgeous!!  Sometimes the little changes just make you feel good.

We also got our order from Amazon - you could say I have a bit of an Amazon addiction, cuz I swear you can find almost anything you need on that darn site, so here's what arrived today:

Have you seen the show - Duck Dynasty??  Oh lord I love this show.  It's about a redneck family from Louisiana whose gotten quite wealthy making duck calls.  They may be rich, but they're still just good old southern folks and they crack me up.  So I ordered the first season on DVD and have the second season on pre-order for when it's released.

My friend Ginny who I take my larger quilts to for quilting had these singer scissors when I took a quilt to her the other day and they intrigued me.  So I got a pair - I love a good pair of scissors.  They look to be handy!!

I'm quite a fan of Fons and Porter and saw they had this Table Top Quilts book, so I ordered it as I love to make table toppers to switch out around the house, change up the look here and there and it's a fun and quick project for when I need to feel like I've accomplished something.

And last, but not least - our new honey dispenser - the honey dispenses out of the bottom, so no more turning the honey bear container upside down.  We've gone to using honey on a lot of things, like oatmeal, etc.  I've read that if you take a teaspoon of local honey everyday it helps with allergies, I haven't tried it to find out if I could benefit from it.   We love our local clover honey, so this is a great way to dispense it and it looks pretty too!!

I've finished 7 of the Ozark Star Table toppers and have 2 more in the works.  I'm ready for all upcoming birthdays till the fall.  Next up, need to get to the quilt for our bed, I've put it off long enough.  Oh and it's been started and in the works for over 2 years, how sad is that!!

Sewing Room Mishap

I forgot to share the sewing room mishap this past week.  It was Tuesday and I was busy sewing, backing up my chair to press my seams and then back to my machine to sew.  Well I backed up and could feel the wheel of my chair roll on something.  I quickly stood up to see what it was and discovered a wad of black fur and my Chanceman running off to the living room.

CR and I caught up with him only to discover that the weight of the chair and his running, not only took a lot of hair off, but also ripped the skin on his back leg.  He was in so much pain but given the hour of the night and the fact that it wasn't bleeding we waited till the next morning and got him into the vet.  They took even more hair off by shaving him and stitched him up.

My poor Chanceman, I have really struggled with the guilt.  He came home and just stumbled his way around because of being sedated.  We had him on pain drugs for a couple of days and it was so odd to see him so helpless and so out of it.  He's doing much better now and even playing with Scotchie a bit.

He's done a lot of resting and napping too, which is typical for him, he's a big napper.

And meanwhile poor Scotchie gets in trouble with his big brother every time he tries to sniff at the injury or wrestle to much.  So I think Scotchie has been a bit depressed and napping a lot as well.

It's a rough life when your mom runs over your big brother!!
Meanwhile Maddie is her usual self - ignore the kitties and focus on me!!

Cortisone Shots and Table Toppers

Cortisone shots - let me just say that while they can bring great relief to a painful joint, they can also make you sorry you considered having one.  As I was on Thursday night after getting a shot in my right thumb joint.  My arthritis in that joint has gotten worse and I have a bone spur on top of it all, so it was time to give in and get a shot.  The joke was on me - I thought it hurt enough to get the shot, what I didn't consider is how I wouldn't sleep a wink Thursday night because the shot hurt so bad I wanted to chop my hand off.  Thankfully by Friday night it was feeling much better and I finally slept and boy did I sleep - try 12 hours to be exact, I was just wiped out from pain and no sleep.

Today is a great day, I feel much better, so does my thumb.  I opted not to go to breakfast with CR and our friend Ken as we do every Saturday, instead I got up and decided to make Snickerdoodle cookies.  I just love snickerdoodles and yet as much as I bake, I've never made them, so I decided to remedy that today and CR just told me that I'm never allowed to buy cookies again.  He loves them!!

After the baking I got busy in my sewing room and made a couple more table toppers.  Two of them are the blue one and are gifts.   The beige with a bit of purple is for me.  I like them both a lot.

Tomorrow I need to get busy and quilt 6 of these table toppers - well start to quilt them.   Of those, one if for me, three are for March Birthday's, one is for my little sister and one is for a June Birthday.  I can't believe how ahead of schedule I am for Birthdays!!

It's been so cold and grey around here lately.  I don't mind the cold, but I sure would like to see the sun.  I actually prefer mild to cold temps best.  When it's cold you can layer and when it's mild, well it's just a perfect day to be outside and do fun things like hike, yard work, bicycle, etc.  But when it's hot, like my friend Jennifer is Australia has been experiencing - well a person just can't and shouldn't get naked enough to deal with that kind of heat!!

Experimenting with a Christmas Present

This year CR's brother Doug and his wonderful wife Mon, sent us the neatest gift for Christmas.  It was an apple shaped bowl for baking an apple Tort and it came with a recipe, that was even stamped on the back of the bowl so you never lose it:

How cool is that.  And I love apples, so it's perfect for us!!

Well I had some apples that have lost their crispiness and to me they aren't edible if they aren't crisp, so I knew it was time to bake with them.  What a perfect thing to do - make an apple torte, right.

Oh and it's delicious all warm out of the oven.

Been sewing away in my little room, will have something to share soon.

Ozark Star Table Topper

A friend of mine brought me a copy of this wonderful table topper pattern.  It happens to be a free pattern from Fons and Porter and you can find it here.  So I made it this past week and have it proudly displayed on my buffet.  I just love it and it's fun and quick and easy to make.

It's sure been cold around here today, I don't think it even got to 30 degrees today.  This morning when I got up our temp was a balmy 17 degrees, burrrrrrrr!!  Thank goodness for hot coffee and hot tea.

Winter Snuggling

Winters are for snuggling and keeping warm.  So Chanceman and Scotchie can be found most evenings snuggled up on their favorite chair with a warm blanket.

Mr. Snowman

Meet Mr. Snowman.  I made him on New Years day.  He's from Fons & Porter's Quick Quilts Winter 2012.  I've had a heck of a time trying to get a picture of him up on my blog, when I try to do the "insert image", the upload feature doesn't let me browse to find a photo file.  I don't know if it's me or blogger, I've never had an issue before.  So weird.

Hope your New Year is off to a fantastic start.  I personally have begun mine with some kind of flu bug - oh the joys.
