Fabric Shopping

I was pretty good about my spending while in NC and came home with some money, so what to do with said money - get to the fabric store!!  Sadly there aren't any quilt shops around where the Aunties live, which always shocks me, you'd think they'd have more available than we do.  I mean there must be quilters that live there, what do they do for fabric?  Maybe I'll run into a quilter one day while back there and they can give me the scoop.

So off to the fabric store I went and this is what came home with me:

I found the above fabric for a table runner.  I have this book that uses fat quarters and a table runner pattern that uses 6 fat quarters to make a really cute runner so I'll be making this soon.  I want to put it on my MIL's buffet, I have a lot of blue in that room.

I also signed up for Jacquelynne Steves Sew Simplicity Block of the Month, which started while I was gone, so I had to get the fabric for it, the first block is out and I haven't even done the cutting part yet - I'll be doing that and the first block this weekend.  I think there is still time if you're interested in doing it.  Here are my fabrics:

I forgot to show you my new shoes that I picked up while in NC.  They are Toms and they are sparkly.  I wouldn't wear them for a lot of walking, but they're fun to wear out and about, and I think they're really cute as well as comfortable, just not super supportive.

It's a damp, grey, gloomy day around here, again.  I miss the sun already and I have a feeling the winter is going to be a lot of grey skies.  Oh well, that will make me appreciate spring and summer more I suppose.  The leaves are changing quickly and should be off the trees pretty soon.  Ugh - Raking, but wait, CR brings out the riding lawn mower and mulches and catches the leaves, that's right, we don't rake anymore, hooray!!

I can't believe this is the last day of October and Halloween.  Seems like just yesterday I was getting things ready to go back to my Aunties and now I'm home and it's the end of the month.  I bought a big bag of Tootsie Rolls for goblins who may ring my door bell, however in years past we haven't had many, but it's a Friday night so you never know.

We are home for the day/night, how about you?  Any Halloween parties or plans??

Happy Halloween, Happy Stitches and Hugs,

Hey Y'all, I'm back from NC

Wow, is it good to be home.  2 weeks doesn't seem like a long time and it goes fast, but to my little dog and her cat brothers it was far to long.  Maddie was all over me upon my return, the cats however were there to greet me and then snubbed me for several days as I was out of favor with the feline crowd.  Luckily a few days later they decided I'd been punished enough and all is back to normal.

Before I forget, I know I shared all the things I was taking back to the Aunties and they were all very much loved and appreciated.  Aunt Jean really loved her quilt.

My trip home was quite exciting - NOT.  I was scheduled to fly out at 11:30am on Wednesday, our plane landed, people came off the plane, then they announced that the plane had been hit by lightening.  They had to call a maintenance person in and it would be 30 minutes before he arrived, ugh.  From there it went all downhill.  They tried to get me out on Delta, but that was a no go and so I stayed the night at the Norfolk, VA airport Hilton.  I was just grateful not to be on the plane with the major damage from the lightening!  I finally made it home Thursday and boy was I exhausted.

Thought I'd share some photos from my trip, many of which I shared on Instagram (zunibear19) and on Facebook.  So sorry if you follow me there and this is a repeat.

My Aunts live next door to each other, this year I stayed with Aunt Jean.  Aunt Jean has 2 cats:  Sadie and Missy and 2 dogs:  Shy and Gretchen.

Missy (luckily she liked me, it made up for how Sadie felt, haha)
Sadie (she stared at me like I'd murder her in her sleep)
Shy (she barks to go outside, but Gretchen knows she's barking to get someone up to give them cookies, so Gretch goes directly to the kitchen to wait for the cookie.  Sometimes it works, sometimes not so much, but they try!!
Gretchen (she's a sweetie, but boy does she have bad allergies, also bad gas and snores)
This is the Nicholson House, built in the 1800's it's now a restaurant - a really good restaurant.  I celebrated my 54th birthday while back east, this is where we went, twice in fact and so delish!!
The above pics were taken inside the Nicholson house.  The wood work is absolutely beautiful.

A cotton field near my Aunts house - the cotton fascinates me.

The above pictures are of a couple embroidery finishes I completed while in NC.

The Fall/Harvest Jim Shore Angel.  The Aunties bought it for me as an early Christmas present.

This adorable clock was given to me by Aunt Jean for my birthday

I found this for our kitchen at the Cotton Gin

A pen and pencil holder for the kitchen, also found at the Cotton Gin

This adorable night light was given to me by Aunt Shirl for my birthday

Found these adorable Jim Shore figures at a Hallmark - Owl and Cardinal, so cute.
Found this adorable turkey at a Hallmark.  Thanksgiving is my fav holiday.
It was a great trip, I did some cooking for the Aunties and baked some cookies as well as took some back.  We went out and about a lot and spent some time at home talking, watching some funny movies and just enjoying each others company.

We were supposed to got to DC to take my Uncles ashes to Arlington, but Arlington is part of the government, which never moves quickly and so my Auntie is still waiting on them to give her a date to do this.  I'm bummed as I wanted to help her drive and navigate the trip, as well as to just be there.  Guess it was just not meant to be.

Hope you've all been well.  It's sure turned to fall here and is cool and lately rainy and damp.  How's the weather where you are - is it fall yet??

One Last Post

After baking all those cookies and cleaning house I sat down for a rest and one thing that always relaxes me is embroidery.  I've been working on the cutest Scarecrow from Bird Brain Designs and last night I finished it.  So I couldn't leave town without sharing my latest finish.

He was so much fun to do and I think he is just so cute.  I love Scarecrows - they just say Autumn to me.  Now to decide - a small wall hanging or something else.  I have some lovely autumn fabrics just waiting for him.  Since his pattern was just the embroidery I guess I can make anything up and he'll look adorable.

Almost Ready

The house is cleaned and spotless (well for the moment), the groceries have been stocked up and some things are laid out with the suitcases next to them.  I think I'm almost ready to travel.

Today, after I cleaned and did the floors, I started baking.  Chocolate Chip cookies for the Aunties and a separate batch for CR.  I made the dough ahead of time - I find that Choc Chip cookies, well most cookies bake best when they are at least refrigerated, or in this case, made ahead, formed and then frozen till I'm ready to bake them.  So this week I made them ahead, popped them in the freezer and was ready for weekend baking.

Years ago I re-wrote my Grandmas recipe to be a batch and a half, no sense in making less and each time I mix them up I get 70+ cookies.  If I'm going to heat up the oven, then I'm going to make a lot and once baked they freeze well.

Wow the house smells so good right now!!  I'm so on top of things that I mailed a card and with a gift card out to our Grandson for his 12th birthday on Tuesday.  His Mom told me today that he and 3 of his friends went to a movie this afternoon and then will all be coming back to the house for some paint ball fun and a sleep over.  Lord she is so brave to have 4 overly active, pre-teen boys running around her house.

Today CR brought the suitcases (one check in, one carry on) into the house for me.  I have a few piles of things to pack by them - it's all a bit mess at the moment, but by Tuesday it will be all neat and ready to go.

I fly out Tuesday around 6pm to Seattle.  I'll have dinner at the Anthony's restaurant in the airport (yummy seafood) and then fly out at 11:30pm - the red eye, to Washington DC.  Once there I'll have time to brush my teeth and get some coffee, then it's off to Norfolk, VA where my Aunties will pick me up at 9:30am and head to their homes in Elizabeth City, NC.  I'm looking forward to seeing them.

So I'll be gone till the 22nd of October and during that time I'll be taking a break from my blog, blog reading, and other distractions like facebook.  Of course I'll call CR everyday and I'll have to talk to Maddie over the phone (she gets so depressed when I leave).  CR will have his hands full with the kids I'm sure.

So take care and I'll be back in a couple of weeks.

Happy Stitches and Hugs,
